United College, Lambung, Chandel, was established on the 18th February, 1980 as a private college after prominent leaders, chiefs of surrounding villages and public leaders of Chandel district, Manipur, came together to address the long felt and growing need of an institution of higher education in Chandel which would provide opportunity to students of the district to fulfill their wish to study further after passing Matriculation.

Chandel, being the most backward of all the hill districts of Manipur, was also pitifully far behind in educational sphere. The standard of existing schools left much to be desired and the lack of college education facilities in the district compounded matters further. Most students could not go beyond Standard X (ten). It was under such a compelling situation that United College was established.

United College is situated at a picturesque site about 1 ½ Kms from Japhou Bazar, the District Head Quarter. Donated by Lambung village, the College campus measuring 13.52 acres is surrounded by evergreen pine hills and skirted by the meandering Chakpi River. The scenic panorama and peaceful atmosphere makes United College an ideal place of educational pursuits.
